AI+Education Policy Trackers

At EDSAFE AI Alliance, we recognize the critical importance of staying informed about evolving policies that impact education (and other sectors) in the age of AI. This page combines a comprehensive collection of policy-tracking tools from leading organizations across the education ecosystem and beyond.  Trackers include state, federal, and international policy.   By providing educators, administrators, and policymakers with easy access to these resources, we empower them to navigate and respond to the complex landscape of AI in education, ensuring that decisions are made with equity, safety, and ethical considerations at the forefront.  Organizations update these trackers regularly, so please consult the updated date on the individual websites.

American Action Forum logo

American Action Forum’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy Tracker is a tool to help navigate federal AI legislation. The tracker divides bills into five categories based on their intent. It briefly summarizes each bill, detailing how it will be implemented, mechanisms to enforce the law, and notes on its construction and potential impact if enacted. The tracker is updated bi-weekly based on information available on Congress.gov.  This tracker currently does cover bills for the 119th Congress.

Brennan Center for Justice

The Brennan Center's Artificial Intelligence Legislation Tracker aims to increase public awareness of the myriad proposed regulatory approaches to AI legislation by serving as a repository of such AI-related bills introduced this session. Until now, information about AI legislation has been scattered across the internet or was accessible only through expensive legislative tracking services. Given both the known and unknown risks of AI, it is critical that the public have easy access to information on how lawmakers are attempting to address concerns.  This tracker currently does not cover bills for the 119th Congress.

Center for Democracy & Technology

The Center for Democracy and Technology's AI Policy tracker compiles a rapidly growing corpus into a single database with search functions. By bringing together all of CDT’s work on AI, the tracker enables a quick review of CDT’s AI-related policy positions, archives previous positions that may have changed, and promotes the discovery of common themes in CDT’s AI work. This search tool can find CDT reports, comments, and blog posts by date, keyword, topic, or audience. This tracker has 2025 updates.

CRPE

The Center for Reinventing Public Education has released a preliminary database of emerging school system AI strategies, compiled using publicly available news stories and referrals from AI support organizations. We have also developed an initial analysis of the emerging trends. While these districts are not a representative sample or an exhaustive list of school systems engaging in AI strategies, they offer important insights into emerging AI adoption strategies.   Last updated 2024.

New America logo

New America knows that with the rapid use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and tools in schools nationwide, educators, policymakers, and leaders are grappling with fundamental questions about how educators and learners might safely and effectively use, understand, and evaluate AI. As a result, states, districts, and others have developed implementation guidelines and frameworks housed in a table on this page. The table was first published on 4-24-2024 and updated as of 8-08-2024 with state resources on Page 1, and general resources on Page 2. District resources are listed in the Resource section, as well. Last updated 2024.
