EDSAFE AI Fellowships

The EDSAFE AI Fellowship is a leadership development program designed to connect and empower underrepresented thought leaders in artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Through interactive workshops, mentorship, and a collaborative capstone project, Fellows gain a deeper understanding of AI's ethical, safe, and equitable use in education. The Fellowship is not full-time.

The Catalyst Fellowship is open to individuals who are passionate about the use of AI in education and who identify as:Educational leaders: This includes administrators, teachers, researchers, and policymakers who are interested in exploring AI's potential to improve learning outcomes.Open for worldwide applications!The Women in AI Fellowship is open to individuals who are passionate about the use of AI in education and who identify as:Women technologists: This includes women working in AI development, data science, or related fields interested in applying their skills to education.Educational leaders: This includes administrators, teachers, researchers, and policymakers who are interested in exploring AI's potential to improve learning outcomes.Open for worldwide applications!The Vanguard Fellowship is open to individuals currently working in K-12 education who are passionate about the use of AI in education and who identify as:K-12 Educators and Administrators: This includes classroom teachers of all subject areas, instructional coaches, site administrators, district administrators, IT professionals, or anyone whose role includes implementing AI in a K-12 setting. Education Leaders: Employees of regional education agencies, education services agencies, or state education agencies who are working to shape the conditions for SAFE AI use in the K-12 environment.Preference given to U.S. based applicants.

Fellows will:Gain expertise: Learn from world-renowned experts in AI and education through interactive workshops and discussions.Build a network: Connect with a cohort of like-minded peers and mentors passionate about AI's ethical use in education.Make a difference: Apply their knowledge to develop a capstone project addressing a real-world AI education challenge.Amplify their voice: Contribute to the global conversation about the responsible use of AI in education.

The Fellowships are a 12-month program typically requiring a monthly commitment of 2-4 hours. This includes attending virtual workshops, participating in group discussions, and working on the capstone project.

The EDSAFE AI Fellowships are fully funded, with no participation cost.

No honorarium or compensation is associated with the EDSAFE AI Fellowships.

Applications are due November 30, 2026, at 10 p.m. EST. We will not accept applications submitted after this date and time.Self-nominations are welcome. Fellows will be announced in January 2027.

Selections are made by a selection committee representing a diversity of perspectives and organizations within the EDSAFE AI Alliance. The selection process is competitive and based on a variety of factors, including:Demonstrated commitment to the ethical use of AI in educationLeadership potentialDiversity of experience and backgroundQuality of application materials

Successful applicants will be notified in late December and announced in January.

The program is a 12-month Fellowship starting annually in January.
